Confessions-PRIEST-PRINT-FOR-WEB

I am complex.

My love is all-encompassing.

And when it comes to my heart, there is only one rule:

Don’t mess with what’s mine.

Until the age of seven, I was Joel Alexander Donovan, son of Jimmy.

The man who terrorized a town and made its citizens fear

the very ground he walked on. Including me,

the day I realized that ground ran red with blood.

At age eighteen, I became Priest.

A man without a past.

A man determined to right the wrongs of my father.

A man who never believed anyone could love the son of such a monster.

But then a thief stole my heart.

A sweetheart lit up my world.

And I forgot for a moment you should never turn your back on your enemy.

And thus begins a lesson to those who would seek to harm: Never underestimate what the Priest will do to protect the Princess and the Prick.

Excerpt:

CHAPTER ONE

CONFESSION

My name is not Joel Priestley.

My name is Joel Alexander Donovan.

And a long time ago, I was taught that things

aren’t always what they appear to be—and neither are people.

JOEL PRIESTLEY, A.K.A Priest, sat behind the wheel of his Aston Martin with his hands at the ten and two positions and his seatbelt fastened. He’d been sitting like that for the past thirty minutes or so. Ever since he’d pulled the vehicle into its designated parking spot alongside his and Julien’s—his husband’s—black Range Rover.

Sinatra had been keeping him company, as Priest tried to block out the phone call he’d made back in his office to Henri. But no matter how loud he played the charismatic crooner, nothing seemed to lessen the impact of Henri’s words and the way they had made Priest’s stomach coil.

“Nice to know you can at least follow an order if it’s to keep those you love safe… Be careful; keep an eye out…”

And that was what he’d been doing for the past thirty minutes or so. Sitting in his car, with his eyes trained on the rearview and side mirrors, as his paranoia over what used to only exist in the shadows began to slowly creep back out into the light of day.

Priest gritted his teeth and reminded himself that Jimmy wasn’t out of prison just yet and likely wouldn’t be for some time. He wasn’t about to appear out of thin air to exact absolution for what he believed was Priest’s biggest crime—abandonment. But that didn’t mean Jimmy hadn’t reached out to the others to find him. To track down the son who had turned his back on his family if, and when, he walked free.

Priest cursed and slammed the heel of his palm against the steering wheel, then he reached for the seatbelt’s release, and as it retracted across his chest, he reached up and shoved it off his shoulder where it caught. As it snapped into place, Priest pulled the handle of the door and got out of the car. He needed to get upstairs. To get inside a locked lobby, where a security guard walked the halls, and his condo had a deadbolt on the front door. It was one of the main reasons he’d been interested in Logan’s place to begin with. The additional barriers between him and those he loved—and anyone who may want to hurt them.

Julien had already texted to let Priest know he and Robbie arrived home safely. But as of yet, Priest hadn’t heard anything from Robbie, their boyfriend. Not that he’d expected to. The last image Priest had of their princess was an ashen face and betrayal in those usually bright blue eyes, and Christ, Priest wished he could erase that picture from his mind.

The three of them had been making such headway lately. They had moved past the getting-to-know-you, comfortable stage of their relationship, and had been thisclose to slipping into that space where the heart and soul of the one whose body you were worshiping was coveted.

But that had all changed now. The truth about his father having wiped out any trust he may have built with Robbie, judging by the expression on his face before Priest had left the brewhouse.

All the joy, and all the happiness, the closeness the three of them had been reveling in, had been smothered by the dark cloud that descended on them, and Priest had a feeling it was going to take a lot of explaining on his behalf before they could get out from under it—if they ever could.

Priest jabbed the button of the garage elevator, and when the doors slid open, he ran his key fob over the panel and hit the floor button. He leaned against the back wall and shut his eyes, and as the elevator ascended, he wondered how he was going to explain all of this to Robbie.

He’d only ever had to do it once before. Only ever found one other he deemed important enough to share this side of himself with. And he’d been just as apprehensive, just as sick to his stomach, at the thought of revealing all to Julien, as he was heading up to face Robert Bianchi.

Priest walked down the hallway toward their condo like a man heading toward his execution—or the execution of their new relationship—and when he got to the front door, he paused before entering.

Scanning the hallway, he looked to his left, where their neighbor lived on the other side of the corridor, before he took a final glance back in the direction he’d come. Once he was satisfied there was no one about, he unlocked the door and headed inside.

The first thing he noticed upon entry was how quiet it was. Lately, when he’d arrived home from work, the TV was on and there was the sound of someone doing something or other in the living room or kitchen. But not this afternoon.

Right now, the place felt more like a library. The kind of space where you should tiptoe and whisper in case you offended whoever was inside—provided there was someone there to offend in the first place.

But that was just his paranoia creeping in again. Of course someone was inside—two someone’s, in fact. Julien had told him so, and when Priest stepped out of the short hallway, he spotted his husband immediately.

Julien was curled up on the couch with a blanket over his legs and his phone in hand, and the second Priest moved into view, Julien’s legs came out from under him and he got to his feet. He dropped the phone on the cushion beside him, and as the blanket fell from his lap, it crumpled to the soft rug without a sound.

Julien rushed around the couch and hurried over to Priest, and when he reached him, Julien took his face between his hands and pressed a hard kiss to his lips.

Mon Dieu, Joel,” Julien said. “I’ve been a mess worrying over you. I’m so glad you’re home.”

Priest wound his arms around Julien’s waist, anchoring himself to the man who understood him in ways Priest had never imagined possible. “You don’t know how much I needed to hear that.”

Julien trailed his fingers down the scruff on Priest’s cheek and frowned. “Was there really any doubt?”

Priest shut his eyes and let Julien soothe him in the way that only he could. His touch, his words, this man’s mere presence—they were all vital to Priest’s survival. Priest let go of Julien’s waist to cover the hand still cradling his cheek.

There were so many things he needed to say: “I’m sorry”or “You were right.I should’ve told Robert about this the second I found out.”But right then, all Priest could manage was: “There was no doubt. Not about you. Neverabout you.”

Julien’s eyes softened as Priest’s shifted over his husband’s shoulder to the closed door of their bedroom. “Is he still here?”

Oui.”

“I…” Priest paused as he searched for the words. “I wasn’t sure that he would be.”

“I wasn’t either,” Julien admitted, and when Priest locked eyes with him again, Julien added, “He’s been in there since we got home. Hasn’t said a word.”

“That was more than an hour ago.”

Julien nodded. “I know. But he made it very clear he wasn’t ready to talk about things yet.”

Not knowing what to say to that, Priest put his keys on the coffee table, and Julien placed a hand on his back.

“Listen, he’s processing right now. What he found out about Jimmy… It’s a lot, mon amour.”

“It’s more than that, Julien. You saw his face when he found out.”

Oui, I did. I also spoke to him in the car on the way home.”

“He thinks I lied to him. Doesn’t he?” When Julien didn’t reply, Priest ran a hand through his hair. “Fuck,” he said. “Fuck. I should’ve told him about all of this before he moved in.”

“And when should you have done that? At CRUSH? On our first date with him? Or maybe the second, when he had dinner here? I’m surethat would’ve made him feel right at home. There hasn’t been a good opportunity. You know that,” Julien reminded him, and touched his fingers to the sleeve of Priest’s jacket. “He just needs time to—”

“No,” Priest said, shaking his head. “Time gives people a chance to distort things. To make them doubt what they once believed. You and I know that better than anyone. I won’t have him doubting this. Doubting us, Julien. Not because of fucking Jimmy. I’m going to go and talk to Robert, and he’s going to listen, and then the three of us are going to sit down and discuss this.”

Something flashed in Julien’s expression, but instead of saying what was on his mind, he let go of Priest’s arm and said, “Okay.”

Priest narrowed his eyes in question, but Julien remained quiet. So Priest turned on his heel and headed toward their bedroom to track down their boyfriend and try to make things right again.

Julien (Confessions #2)

Julien by Ella Frank: Review by Lost in a Book

Julien (Confessions #2)

Blurb:

People are complex.
Love a double-edged sword.
And when it comes to a broken heart, there are no rules, only time…

For the past eight years, Julien Thornton has been living with a secret. One that only a handful of people know about.

To the outside world, he has it all.
A thriving career. A loving husband. And a face that the American public fell for by the millions, on a reality show that inadvertently saved his life.

But behind the shine of celebrity, behind the easygoing nature, a crippling truth fills Julien with pain and self-loathing. It’s a truth that he fights to overcome daily with the help of his husband, Joel Priestley, and now their boyfriend, Robbie Bianchi.

But unlike Priest, Robbie doesn’t know what he’s helping Julien to fight. He doesn’t know what Julien did all those years ago. And with the anniversary of his sister’s death fast approaching, the time for explanations is running out.

And thus the question: will the princess be able to forgive the prick as the priest once did?

Only time will tell.

**Please note this book contains sensitive situations regarding drug use.**

*Psssssttttt* I’ll tell you a secret… I’m holding out for Priest. He’s the dessert I’ve been waiting to devour. I’m not saying I haven’t enjoyed Robbie and Julien, I’m just being clear and upfront that Priest is where it’s at for me.

holding.gif

This story is aptly named because it goes through Julien’s mysterious history that we understand from the first story, runs very deep. Much of Julien’s POV are flashbacks either he has or stories he is telling. Robbie and Priest help Julien navigate through the emotional turmoil in their own way with Priest’s solid support and Robbie’s ray of light shining through all the darkness.

We still get all three POVs in Julien as the men continue to find their footing as a relationship of three. For me, the Julien situation is overshadowed by the connection that grew with Robbie and Priest. I’m was for that too since I love Robbie and Priest HARD! They become more comfortable as a duo outside and inside the bedroom. Lemme just say, the closet and shower scenes… 🔥🔥🔥

“We are allowed to do whatever we like to whomever we like within the three of us. There’s no room or cause for jealousy. There has to be trust, honesty, and total transparency.”

Robbie, Julien, and Priest are still hot together but the focus is more on deepening the connection with everyone as duos and a trio. The situation with Julien had an EPIC build-up. I was expecting something insanely unthinkable and once everything was revealed, I had a moment of “that’s it?” I’m not saying the situation as it happened wouldn’t leave scars, I just went way worse in my mind based on the reactions and emotions prior to the reveal.

Julien is an enjoyable follow-up to Robbie but didn’t quite hit the same enjoyment level as the first (which had insane levels of reading excite). I definitely recommend this book. Now, *SQUEEEEEE* it’s time for my dessert Priest.

Review Rambling thoughts: I don’t typically post a book that doesn’t have a semi-decent review and/or description. However, I binged on the Urban Soul series this weekend and still haven’t been able to get the characters out of my mind. So, here is just some quick thoughts on both books available in the series.

Misfits (Urban Soul #1)

5 Stars

Holy Hell, I have a serious love obsession for Jake, Tom, and Cass now. I didn’t want this to end but I couldn’t slow down to savor because… Well, Jake, Tom, and Cass are worth the insane lack of sleep and lack of productivity over the last 24 hours. I’m sad AF they don’t have a million more stories about them because I would read the shit out of them.

pic.jpg

Garrett Leigh just got herself a Stage-10 Clinger after this read. *shrug* I will be moving on have already moved to the next book in this series just to help with my book hangover.

*kicks self in the ass for waiting so long to read this divine book*

Strays (Urban Soul #2)

4 Stars

Well, those two books went down fast and smooth as fine wine. I really enjoyed this book but it didn’t take up as much of my heart Misfits did. Nero and Lenny had to climb mountains and I was hooked each step of the way. We are also treated to multiple appearances by Cass, Tom, and Jake. *Happy face* Definitely recommended and can’t wait for more in this series.

This is my 3rd Garrett Leigh book in a couple weeks… which means it all hurts so good and now I need to dive into a big huge ball of fluff.

Robbie (Confessions, #1)

Robbie (Confessions, #1) by Ella Frank: Review by Lost in a Book

Synopsis:

Relationships are complex.
Love ever-changing.
And when it comes to rules of the heart,
they were made to be broken…

That’s what Robert Antonio Bianchi was telling himself, anyway.
Otherwise, he really had no excuse for what—or who—he’d done.

No excuse, except for his lonely heart, a pitcher of margaritas, four Bitter Bitches, and the apparent need to confess all his weaknesses to the two men he knew would bring him nothing but trouble.

But trouble was nothing new.

Just ask his crazy sisters or any of his friends, and they’d be the first to tell you:
If there was a bad decision to be made, Robbie always had a knack for making it.

And thus begins the story of the priest, the princess, and the prick.

Review

4.5 “holy shit that was hot” Stars

Buckle up Y’all, this is going to be another gushfest. It’ll also be a quick and dirty summary of all the things I had heart eyes for while reading (and only one that threw me off). I had a lot of love for PRIEST, Julien, and Robbie. *let the gushing begin*

love.gif

I LOVE that cover. Robbie is so freakin’ beautiful!!

I LOVE these broken characters. All of them. Priest hit all my yes, please- every day and twice on Sunday buttons but the other two men held their own as well. They actually communicated. The lack of drama and jealously was SO refreshing in this M/M/M read.

I LOVE the reason Priest and Julien added a third. They have so much love for each other, their chemistry was off the charts, and they were adult enough to communicate and understand that there were needs they couldn’t meet for the other.

I LOVE the equality for the trio and the relationships being built in each duo. Robbie provides something different for Julien than he does for Priest and vice versa. Again, all of this without an ounce of jealously. Each man has vulnerable moments and times to be the rock. There’s a hierarchy in their relationship that compliments and provides what each man needs.

I LOVE and had insane hot flashes with all the chemistry and UST. Julien and Priest themselves were hot AF- adding Robbie to the mix with all that chemistry becomes a health hazard.

Speaking of hot flashes and health hazards…

The actual sexy times…

clapping.gif

There’s a lot to LOVE. Oh my, they knew their way around a man. Not even just penetration but the anticipation, foreplay, the looks, light touches, the commands, the submission… sheeee-it. This is a stripped down D/s where the craving for submission alone is desired.

Warning: There is kinda sorta cliffhanger for this one. It isn’t dealing with the relationship of the MCs but has to do with the circumstances and backstories. You *could* stop after the first one but it was so good I’ve GOTTA spend some more time with them.

My only compliant when reading was the missing bits of information for each character. I felt like I should know them already or at least some of their backstory/history. Note: (I read Try when it came out 4 & 1/2 years ago and couldn’t remember anything. When I began Robbie, I didn’t know that it had a carry over character from that book or I would have revisited it as a refresher.) I definitely wanted more of Priest and Julien’s story while reading and I’m tickled pink that we’re getting more books about them in MAY!!!!!!! I’m gonna roll around in Priest SO HARD as soon as May gets here… Did I mention he is a ginger? *Growl* Julien’s book comes out in May but I’m going to assume well be treated to the multiple POV that I enjoyed for this one.

In the meantime, I’ll need to cool off in preparation for book 2… because health hazard.

**Thanks for the rec R, I owe ya one lots.**

Three Under the Christmas Tree

2 Stars

Uhhhhmmmmmmm.

*cue porn music*

Ok, much better. Now the proper mood is set because this was straight up porny-land. I’m talking sex, sex, more sex, teeny bit of OTT drama, sex, sex, lack of communication, and didn’t I mention sex? The time it took the established couple to say “hello, nice to meet you,” to being at their house with the third, picturing a life together, and them being naked took less time than my one-click finger with an Amazon gift card.

fast.gif

Ace decides that the perfect gift for Gavin this holiday season is to add a third to their already open relationship. It’s been a while since they had a party of three and Ace found Jonathan on Grindr. As I mentioned before, the meet went very well and Jonathan was picturing domesticated bliss while fucking Gavin’s face, faster than the speed of light.

Jonathan has insecurities from being a third in the past. The couples he had been with before had always just been looking for a good time or a one-off. These insecurities creep up again as the trio try to navigate their wants and needs. Communication becomes a huge issue for all three. But who needs communication when you’re otherwise delightfully occupied? No one because everything was just perrrrrrrrrfect. Jonathan was perfect. The fit was perfect, perfect, perfect. Not really but the term was used enough to try and sell it. *sigh*

I started perking up at the mention of Gavin’s submissive nature, restraints, spanking, etc… But, it didn’t live up to the hype. Felt like vanilla ice cream trying to pass off as rocky road. #kinkfail *sad face*

I’ve read this author recently and really dug it. But this one fell short. Yes, there were moments of heat and a HEA. But, for the most part it was cheesy. A cheesy sex fest.

If I’m gonna be teased with rocky road, don’t give me plain vanilla. At least make it french vanilla. If I’m gonna read porn, I want it to be hot.

A Bolt of Blue

Reviewed for BMBR

This book was difficult to rate. I’ve gone back and forth and all that thinking made my brain hurt. There were parts that really worked for me and then parts that just didn’t. Parts that I wanted to slow down and parts I had to hold myself back from skipping. When I read a book that has a party of three, I always look to see if they’re all treated as equals and that their love/connection works in pairs as well as the trio. It didn’t IMO and I hope I’m able to adequately explain what didn’t work for me.

Mitch and Ian have been best friends for most of their life. They’ve always had a platonic relationship but Ian has been completely in love with Mitch for years. They have a very close relationship that borders on more than friends but Mitch has been too blind to notice and Ian has been too reluctant to tell Mitch how he feels. They are both busy with school, Ian working as a CNA and Mitch playing college baseball. Finally, Ian can’t take it any more and HAS to tell Mitch how he feels. They meet up at a bar and Ian is totally terrified but ready to spill… that is, until Mitch’s secret, Greek god, bartender boyfriend comes up to their table and gives Mitch a kiss.

shit.gif

Mitch and Dusty met at Angel’s bar, where Dusty is a bartender. What was supposed to be a one night stand turned out to be a relationship that Mitch kept under wraps. By time Ian finds out about the relationship, they have been together almost 7 weeks and are in love. It’s a very tough pill for Ian to swallow but he does for the sake of Mitch’s happiness. However, when Mitch and Ian hang out, there are these “moments” that are opening Mitch’s eyes to his feelings for Ian even though he still loves Dusty.

Ian and Dusty have also been spending time together while Mitch is off taking care of his sister’s issues or playing baseball. It’s during these times with Ian and Dusty that they start to develop feelings for each other until one drunken night, they kiss. This sets off a domino effect of issues for all of them to work through. While they do get their HEA, Mitch has to work through the “betrayal” and all the feelings between Ian and Dusty and Mitch’s with both men.

I had a hard time with Mitch. He grated on me with his overly dramatic personality, judgy statements, and everything surrounding his sister, April. I didn’t understand the need for April’s storyline outside of creating potential drama for Dusty and Mitch which detracted from the story IMO. The introduction of April and her issues wasn’t smooth and as it was first happening, my thoughts were along the lines of, “Oh gosh, here we go.” I also didn’t believe the relationship between Mitch and Dusty. Outside of sex, they didn’t have depth. Don’t get me wrong, sex is always a plus but, I needed more and they didn’t have it. They never shared anything meaningful but when Ian came along, Dusty was spilling his soul to him. That didn’t work because Mitch and Dusty were supposedly in love and they had found the one but couldn’t share anything beyond orgasms and food.

Now, Ian and Dusty is where it’s at.

oh yeah.gif

They worked. They had a great connection and the depth in their relationship was so evident that it highlighted the shortfalls with Mitch. They had awesome chemistry and my kindle started smoking just from their kisses. I wouldn’t have complained if this was a M/M starring them. They were a team whether it was in the kitchen cooking, cuddling on the couch, or getting it on. I was a huge fan of them.

Mitch and Ian never really found their stride. They didn’t seem to be equals in the trio even though they were life long friends. It remained awkward and they never quite got to the point together to even come close to how Ian was with Dusty.

The POVs changing with each chapter was a little hard to get into at the beginning. I’m sure by now you can all guess that I would have preferred Mitch’s POV to disappear. *shrug* Another addition to the story that had me rolling my eyes and shaking my head was Trevor. He was a guy that Ian went out with twice to try and get over Mitch. There was enough going on with the three MCs coming together, the implications of said relationship on family/friends, and the bar drama to make the book work. Trevor was as pointless to my reading enjoyment as the April storyline and yet both brought so much drama.

There should be a trigger warning for mentions of sexual assault. The facts in the story are contradictory from the actual event to when it was mentioned at the end. However, it’s worth noting. There is also cheating by way of kissing prior to the three of them getting together.

This was a decent read. I don’t expect each MC to share the exact same likes, desires, bond and relationship with both the other men but I do want them to all feel equal and share some depth. While it didn’t fully work for me, I could see this being an okay starting point for those new to menage books.

Baal’s Heart Series

22896437.jpg23251880.jpg25019473.jpg28274586.jpg

5 + a million Stars

*Peeks out from Pirate Land*

Ahoy Matey!! I’ve been in Pirate Land for the week tearing through this Baal’s Heart series. I just finished the special holiday novella and now I’m left empty and giddy at the same time. The book hangover that’s already creeping up is going to be wicked. I haven’t felt like this about a series since KJ Charles and Joanna Chambers peddled their historical crack book series. I can’t even write a real review because I just want to gush over the epicness of this series.

Some of you may be turned off because M/M/M isn’t your thing. Some may be turned off because of the gruesome, dark nature that is present throughout. But, this was fucking amazing. The whole shebang. All 3 full length books and the holiday novella rocked my word. It had everything I look for in books and then some added on top.

Badass men
Suspense
Romance
Adventure
Top notch world building
Great secondary characters
Chemistry
Kink
Character growth
Etc…
Etc…
Etc…

I’ve said this before, when reading a menage book, I want the trio to work well AND them to work well in pairs. The series shows the development of their relationship as doubles and then a trio. Each man had his time to be vulnerable, jealous, be the glue that holds everything together, to submit, and to dominate. It was beautiful to “see” what each man brought to the table. Let’s be real, it was hot. I’m talking scorching sex. Their chemistry was practically another main character. I loved ALL three men. I don’t have a favorite. Sorry, I couldn’t keep up that lie. TOM. TOM IS MY FAVORITE. I can’t even explain the swoonworthy-badassery that is Tom.

Warning: This series isn’t for squeamish or those that are faint-hearted. It’s pirates. There is violence and piratey things going on. Book two is probably the darkest but all three books have dark themes and are laden with potential trigger warnings like death, rape, torture, etc…

I know this review is all incoherent ramblings… I apologize. That’s what happens when a hangover sets in. Nothing makes sense and you just wanna curl up in bed and take a hit of whatever got you hungover to begin with. So, I’m just gonna roll around in pages of this book over and over again until my hangover is gone. *sigh* Damn you Bey Deckard! I’m broken and the only thing that will fix me is more. *waits not so patiently*
